Add Technology Packages
What is a technology package? A technology package in the Sympheny Web app is a group of energy conversion and/or storage technologies. As with individual technologies, a technology package can be either loaded from a database or created from scratch. You can decide whether this group of technologies must be installed together or not.
Add from Database: To load a technology package from a database, press the Add from Database button. Similar to the conversion and storage technology workflows, you must first choose the database. After this, you can select the package to add
Create custom: To create a technology package from scratch, press the Create Custom button. After specifying a name for your package, you can add various conversion and storage technologies to the package. In adding technologies to your package, you can only select from the technologies that have already been added to your scenario. If you wish to add technologies to your package that are not already in your scenario, you must exit the package specification box and add the technologies to your scenario first.
Tip: By default, technology packages are dealt with as a single unit in the optimization. This means that the optimizer can only choose whether to install ALL of the technologies in the package, or NONE of the technologies in the package – although the technologies are still sized independently from one another in the optimization. It is possible to relax this requirement by checking the box This is an optional component of the technology package in the specification of the technology within the package. In this case, it will be possible for the optimizer to install the technology independently of whether the other technologies in the package are selected to be installed.
Tip: The technology package feature can be used in 2 ways:
To import groups of pre-specified technologies into a scenario, reducing the time that it takes to set up the scenario.
To ensure that a set of technologies is dealt with as a single unit in the optimization. If you wish to use the technology package feature only in the first of these ways, you must remember to check the box This is an optional component of the technology package in the specification of the technologies within the package.
